1976 - 2006: Discovering of a remarkable site - The excavation of Saint-Pierre Cathedral

The renovation of Saint-Pierre Cathedral, begun in 1976, coincided with the launch of a far-reaching archaeological research programme. Its findings not only significantly enhanced our understanding of the site, but also allowed visitors to discover the remains of the prehistoric, Roman and medieval buildings that once stood in and around the present location of the cathedral. The suggested itinerary through these vestiges follows the main stages of the history of Geneva, from Antiquity to the Middle Ages.
